¡° Background
¡° As the world is becoming a
Global Village, the development of National Information Infra-structure
(NII) is widely adopted in developed countries as an important policy to
heighten overall industrial competitiveness and assure competitive
superiority in the coming century.
The benefits of NII for the nation are im-mense. An advanced NII will
enable Taiwan to compete and win in the global economy, generate good
jobs for the people and eco-nomic growth for the nation. Understanding
that the promise of electronic commerce won¡¦t be truly realized until
suitable catalyst and unbiased mechanisms are in place, Dr. Han-Min Hsia,
advisor to the President of ROC and exminister without portfolio in
charge of technology policy, established NII Enterprise Promotion
Association (NIIA) in 1996.
NIIA is the first non-profit organization in Taiwan to promote NII and
introduce leading-edge applications in Taiwan. It successfully serves as
a trendsetter as well as a bridge between the industry and government to
en-courage the development of NII in Taiwan.
¡° Purpose
¡°
Support the government to extensively implement NII applications and
services that are on a par with the developed countries.
Assist the private sector to provide NII services and applications to
the public, especially those related to their daily life.
Strengthen links between the government and the private sector in terms
of science and technology visions and policies.
Collaborate with the government to build a well-rounded environment for
the development of the NII industry.
